DAY 3: GREEN GRADUATES GALORE!

We often get notes left on the teacher's desk, and I thought I'd start off our final day together by sharing one with you. This is a letter received from one of my Challenge participants:

Dear Green Smoothie Queen,
My first day was an adventure. I love greens, but haven't been able to tolerate them in smoothies in the past. For breakfast, I had a repeat of my first ever green smoothie: a bunch of Swiss chard, a banana, some water and a teeny bit of Stevia. Very green. Perhaps more fruit would help, but it was good.

For lunch I had the same (Swiss chard, banana, water, Stevia) but I added half an apple. This was waaaay too sweet and still too "green". Soldier on!

Tonight's smoothie (still finishing it up now) is made up of Swiss Chard, 2 kiwis and half an apple. A little thick, but very tasty. And filling! Best one yet for sure.

Tomorrow I'm going to try a berry one. So far, so good! Oh, and I haven't had to eat anything BUT the smoothies because they are so filling. I'm not even hungry!!! I've washed my blender and my smoothie is almost gone, but I promise I'll take a picture of my berry green smoothie tomorrow morning!

I would NEVER have even TRIED this without you! How cool.

Ellen,
a 'virgin' green smoothie gal

THAT's why I do this! It makes me all slooshy and goopy inside when I realize that one more person has done something new, something healthy, something exciting for herself (or himself!) and is opening new doors on their own that will improve the quality of their life.

So THANK YOU for being here. Thank you for letting me encourage and inspire you (and I sure hope that I am!) Someday (like maybe about 11 days after you sign up for my 10-Day Green Smoothie Challenge?), maybe you'll be sending me a letter like Ellen's!

But before I spray more happy heart-pus all over you, I should mention that I have a BIG SURPRISE waiting for you in the classroom today!

Oh you're just gonna luv me for this one!

Green Smoothie Queen - Day 2

So I have gotten off my original plan and want to keep going on the Green Smoothie series I started posting...

If you missed the Introduction post, you can read it HERE.
If you missed the Day 1 post, you can read that HERE.

DAY 2: WHEN FRUITS AND GREENS SAY, "I DO"!

So how did it go? Did you stick one hand in your fruit bowl and one hand in your crisper and make your first Greeeeen Smoothie?

Was it yummy? Was it yucky? Or was it somewhere in the middle ... kinda "yum-cky"? You know ... not every green smoothie turns out. Oh boy, I remember some of the doozies I made in the beginning, especially with greens I'd never tried before. Here's a little hint: tear off a bit of the green stuff and chew it to see how it tastes on its own before you add it in. Then you'll have a better idea of how much to use. And when you're first starting, simpler is always better ... just try recipes with two or three ingredients.

You'd be amazed at how different one batch of kale can taste from the next depending on where it's grown, whether it's in-season or not, or how long it's been in your fridge (or the store where you bought it). One thing's for sure, each green smoothie you make - even if you use the same ingredients - will taste different!

Today I'm going to tell you about my favorite common ingredients to start out your green smoothie escapades. All you need to do is click below:

Soon you'll be like our green smoothie veterans, and you'll be ready for your first 10-Day Green Smoothie Challenge!

Have a great day at school my bright little Brussle Sprout!

Green Smoothie Queen - Day 1

Content taken from my emails from the Green Smoothie Queen:

DAY 1: GREEN MEANS GO!

Ding! Dong! The Queen is Green and bouncing like a jumping-bean!

(Can you tell I'm a little excited about your first day?)

Did you remember to send in your smiling eyes, your cute nose, and your gleaming cheeks to Keely for your Emerald Lounge Class Photo? And hey... even if you're starting out with luggage under your eyes, no worries - you'll have three days to learn how to lose those bags without the help of an airline! No matter who you are or where you're starting from, I'll be looking forward to "meeting" you!

Now ... I know you're busy, so I'm going to stick to the basics on Day 1. Today, I have information for you on the 5W's of green smoothies! And remember yesterday I mentioned those doors that you could do some thinking about? I have 5 of those for you as well. And I can guarantee that you're going to go through ONE of them today! Wanna see which one?

Green Smoothie Queen - Introduction

I thought I would start out this week by giving a bit more detail on Green Smoothies.  I haven't had a green smoothie for over a week now (b/c of lack of grocery shopping) and this week I am getting back into having one each day.  So come join the fun! :)

The following is directly from the Green Smoothie Queen and is what I used to start trying green smoothies.  Green smoothies are usually fruit mixed with some type of green (spinach, kale, etc.)  Give them a chance!  They're definitely not as bad as they may sound.  Once I signed up for the free 3-day course, I got emails explaining how to do it and with samples of recipes.  But I will recreate that information for you here, over the next few days.

Drinking green smoothies is a way for me to get more dark, leafy, green vegetables (they contain protein!) in my diet so that I can get more of the nutrients that I need.  Simply put, it's much easier to drink the quantity of greens I put in my smoothies than chew them.  I'd be eating salads 24/7!

Is anyone willing to just TRY one?  If you do, I'd love to hear about it - whether it's delicious, disgusting or just so-so!

First things first! Come here!

Little closer...

A little closer...

Just a weeeeee bit closer...

(((((( HUG )))))) Ah! I just had to give you that hug for being here and joining me as we start out your 3-Day adventure together.

I must say, I'm excited for you! I remember how excited I was when I first found out about Green Smoothies (heheh... I also remember how skeptical I was, and look at me NOW! From a quibbler to a Queen!) There's no telling what kind of vibrant transformation you'll make once you start drinking green smoothies! But we're about to find out!

HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?
At the end of this e-mail, you'll find a link taking you to the preparation day to get you ready for your Green Smoothie Mini-Course. Your Day 1 e-mail will arrive automatically within another 24 hours, and your Day 2 e-mail the day after that, and so on. Each e-mail I send will have a link to my virtual classroom where you can read the lesson for the day. You'll LIKE my classroom... you can lay on the couch, take extra long recesses, and make as much noise as you like. In fact, I encourage noise 'round here! I want you to know it's okay to talk to me, so e-mail me at thequeen@greensmoothiequeen.com and your question will be answered.

HOW MUCH GREEN SMOOTHIE SHOULD I DRINK?
This depends! If you're a "green smoothie virgin" and have never tried one, I'll be delighted if you end this program by at least trying your very first green smoothie! If you'd like to feel better, try drinking one every day for the three days. If you're already drinking green smoothies regularly and you want to feel great, you can treat this course as a challenge and try drinking as many green smoothies as you can for the three days. Your success can be measured by whether you have increased your intake of greens. You can also participate in the Day 3 Green Smoothie Practicum (stay tuned!) and make your success official!

WHAT ABOUT THE RECIPES? ARE THERE ANY GROCERIES TO BUY?
For this particular program, there's no set menu, only suggestions! You'll be given a couple of ideas for green smoothies on Day 1 and then a list of the best general "starter" ingredients on Day 2. But if you'd like to have some fruit and leafy greens (whatever is local to your area) on hand, then go for it! Your free recipes will appear at the bottom of the classroom pages for Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3. You will also find more free recipes in The Emerald Lounge thanks to our Green Smoothie Graduates who share their creations!

WHAT IS THE EMERALD LOUNGE?
We have an online community of green smoothie drinkers that you can get to know! To access this community, and to learn everything you need to know about your username and password, just click here!

LIVE SUPPORT
If live talkin' is more your thing, you can also click here to find out about The Raw Divas weekly Cozy Coaching Calls. I want you to feel supported and welcome here! Many of the folks using my programs are at very different stages of health - some are raw, some have only just heard of "raw food", some are happy somewhere in the middle, but all are just trying to make improvements. We're just regular green Janes and Joes trying to help one another out with the information we've gained from our own personal experiences, so if you have questions, frustrations, or stories to share you'll be sure to find someone who's either "been there" or is right there with you!

GET READY FOR YOUR 3-DAY GREEN SMOOTHIE MINI-COURSE:
Now, there is a weeeee task for you to do to help you get ready for your first day of class, so please click the happy link to visit the preparation day:

>>>>>>>>>> 3-Day Mini-Course Prep Day <<<<<<<<<<

In the meantime, how about heading for your basement some time today and digging out your old blender? You're gonna want to give it a hug too when you learn just how dramatically it can change your life! So shake that dust off and we'll see you tomorrow, Smiley!

And finally, the royal lawyers insist that I remind you at least once of our Terms of Use and remind you that I am indeed a Smoothie Queen and not a doctor, so it's necessary to tell you:

The responsibility for the consequences of your use of any suggestion or procedure described hereafter lies not with the authors, publisher or distributors of this program. Learning

I'll be reposting my 'journaling' from when I started this journey and eventually I'll get caught up! I originally wrote this on July 2.

Yesterday I did go to the farmer's market and was honestly disappointed. Granted, this is not the HUGE farmer's market that is within 40 minutes, but a little offshoot of it that comes to my area of town. I was expecting tons of variety and instead everyone pretty much had the same stuff and it wasn’t obvious what was organic and what wasn’t. I think there will be more variety next month as the summer season continues. There were probably about a dozen farm represented there. Either way, locally grown veggies are still better than store bought which have been shipped across the country, so I bought some fresh green beans, a gorgeous head of broccoli, some zucchini and then some red potatoes (my hubby needs something to eat!).

I sat down this afternoon and went through Ani’s Raw Food Kitchen cookbook by Any Phyo and looked up recipes that contain the veggies I purchased and so either tonight or tomorrow I’m going to go and buy the other ingredients. Honestly, I’m FREAKED OUT about trying some of the recipes b/c it’s so different, but I want to try some things with multiple ingredients.

Today I ate half an avocado. Raw. Just like that. I’ve never done that before! Usually it’s a guacamole or thin slices in a sandwich. Eating it just plain leaves me confused about the flavor. It’s kind of smokey, nutty, and maybe like some type of bean…I can’t quite place it. I had to force myself to eat the entire half, but I can see where I will learn to really enjoy this very-full-of-omega 3s-goodie.

I am on my third day of drinking green smoothies (any dark green (I’ve been using spinach), with some fruit (I’ve been using a banana and a few strawberries) added to help disguise the taste of the greens by themselves, and a little bit of water and then blend it all together) and I'm excited b/c I almost gave up on them last night! I put too much cantaloupe in with the strawberries last night and it made my stomach sick. Needless to say, I didn't finish it and had most of it left, so this morning I took the leftovers and added a banana and BAM! just like that it changed the entire thing and made it delicious. Success!
